Frequently Asked Questions

What Type of Eclipse Is It?

The April 2024 eclipse will be a total eclipse. During a total eclipse, the moon completely blocks the sun. Even though the sun is about 400 times larger than the moon, the distance between each solar body creates the illusion that they’re the same size in the sky when viewed from earth.

Do we need special glasses for viewing the eclipse?

We can’t stress this enough: everyone will need eclipse glasses in order to view the eclipse. Sunglasses and welding glasses will not protect your eyes. Viewing glasses are available online and from several vendors in the local communities.

Does it matter if you use binoculars or telescope? If so, is there a special lens or way you to view it?

Yes, special filters are needed for binoculars, telescopes and cameras. Your equipment, and possibly your vision, will be damaged if not properly designed or fitted for a solar eclipse. Please consult a camera or media store for filter specifics for your device.

What is the visibility and totality for MOFFAT Sky RANCH?

98% of the campsites are wide open spaces, no trees, power lines, etc. While we are unable to guarantee visibility or totality, we did find a few sites that show our specific location of Moffat-Temple, Texas as being 4m 6.3s. Here is one example: https://eclipse2024.org/eclipse-cities/city/39438.html?lang=en

Will there be a dump station onsite?

No, our property is not equipped with water, electricity, internet(we do have standard cell service), or dump stations. We found this site to be helpful in locating possible dumps stations. https://rvdumpsites.net/#!Killeen,%20Texas
